Founded in 1870, the Rhode Island SPCA is the first humane organization in Rhode Island and is the 3rd oldest humane organization in the United States. We are the only non-profit animal walfare organization in the state of Rhode Island that is legally able to investigate and prosecute animal cruelty cases. The Rhode Island SPCA is charged with the sole purpose of protecting animal life in all situations that might endanger them.
The Rhode Island SPCA is dedicated to crusading for the rights and welfare of all animals, great and small, through legal, educational, legislative and investigative means.
Along with operating a full shelter that is cares for over 100 cats, dogs and other domestic animals each day, community involvement is also a part of our mission. We offer medical attention for the pets of many impoverished, disabled and elderly individuals who otherwise could not afford to care for them through the Marvin Fund.
